Cake icing help

Cake icing help

Postby Tentacles » Sun Apr 08, 2012 2:54 pm

Last year we bought the roll out royal (?) icing for DSs birthday cake from tweedle cakes and it was great. We need red and black again this year, both colors that I know I won't be able to make successfully at home and I don't think DS will want a pink and grey monster truck  Anyone know where I can buy the pre-coloured icing now that tweedle doesn't stock it?

Theres bound to be a cake decorating shop near you that also supplies roll out icing in various colours and the gel colourings. I got a great black for Ella's cake that I did a few days ago, turned white to a lovely dark black very easily.

I do all my ordering through www.cakestuff.co.nz now they have awesome service, very speedy delivery and very reasonable prices. I always buy black and red but make all the other colours myself and I only use the "bakels" range of ready rolled icing as I find this the best. On the upside bakels now do red, black, green, brown & pink as well as white, almond etc and I find that this brand of icing easily lasts a few months and doesn't dry out so I use every little bit

I saw black royal icing in New World last week when I bought the icing for DS's cake. As for red, definately get gel colouring, it gives a lovely definate red colour. You can get it from trade me for pretty reasonable prices.
