My friend and I are planning to open a shop that primarily sells modern cloth nappies in Wellington (hopefully in Kilbirnie, by the Children's Bookshop).
This is the best way I can think of doing market research! Asking cloth bots!
I'm worried about the feasibility of relying on selling nappies, but figure this is my point of difference from the other baby stores out there (though I know some of them stock a few types of naps). The reason I want a store as opposed to online selling is so that people can come see the nappies for themselves, sizing-wise and different options. And as well, reach those mums out there who aren't internet savvy and haven't yet heard the gospel of modern cloth.
Any ideas on what I should stock? Nappies and otherwise? (Looking at emailing NZ nappy makers today - check your emails
I'm looking at getting in little homemade items, my friend makes funky little people hooded sweatshirts and my business partner's partner (ha!) makes wooden mobiles... trying to find someone who does funky knitted stuff too... bit of retro revival
As far as promoting business goes (due to the fact that the shop we are looking at doesn't have a street front... relying on the pull of the Children's Bookshop) we are thinking of hosting babyshowers, getting in parenting gurus for workshops etc.
As far as facilities go, we are planning on making it as child friendly as possible. Door that buggies can fit through, baby gate on door, child area, bathrooms, breastfeeding chairs, etc. (How are we going to fit this all in?!?!)
Whaddaya think?
