dryer making snaps not snap?

Postby sassydot » Wed Apr 16, 2008 5:25 pm

I put on snaps, checked them, they lock in fine, then wash and dry in hot was/hot dryer, then when they come out, the snaps don't snap any more and I've gotta re-press them?

Coincidence or does the dryer soften them up or somehting? Anyone else had this?

I found the opposite when I used to put mine in the dryer.

So you find the dryer makes them better?

I am NOT looking forward to repressing all these snaps. Ugh.

I've never had any problems with them in hot water or the drier either... but dont let them near the iron

weird! never had any problems here. Are you overdrying or have the heat setting too hot? Do you let them cool down before snapping them up?

Mine have always been fine, but I never put them through the dryer for long - I take them out after 1/2 hour and leave inserts in for longer.

Yep I've had this problem - I always test all my snaps when I make a nappy and then I've had a few that won't stick as well (if at all) after coming through dryer - usually when DH puts them in and doesn't adjust temperature.

I have had this problem also.
I just opt to not put the nappies through the dryer anymore...

But I am a little worried about other articles of clothing the have snaps such as sleepsacks and pyjamas...

I don't use the dryer very often, but when I do I just have to be careful. Our dryer automatically senses when the clothes are dry and turns off.

Thanks everyone.

I put them through the hot wash/dry just as a precaution (mainly to check for any missed sewing spots  )
But went out and forgot the dryer was going. So they got good and dry.

The mother I made them for doesn't have a dryer, so I've just re-pressed themand we'll leave it at that.

I'll just know to check them again for any others I dry.
