At DSs daycare they have a tiny flip top plastic bin next to the change station and I put his zip wetbag in that every day. With the zip and the lid there's no chance of smells but then he is the only on in cloth there so there's not really a space issue.

Jack's preschool just put a plastic bag inside one of those old catering size butter tubs. not much chance of smells coming out of there.

My sisters daycare (she is TT now but was there from 6mo...) They had parent provide nappies of either sort and her wetbag lived in her bag which also had her change of clothes and clean nappies. The wetbag was in a seperate section to her clean nappies.

Could one of our lovely sewing mummas write a tutorial for sewing a hanging zippered wetbag for hanging on a hook? Perhaps messanger bag style with a flap that comes over the zip? They can be written on with vivid or embroidered etc

At home I use lidded bucket - not the specific nappy ones but one from a bulk place... anyway they can be stacked easily (on a bench or shelf if needed - they aren't heavy) you can write the childs name in vivid on the outside and put a standard wetbag inside for taking nappies home at the end of the day.

I had thought about making up a resource for how to do cloth in childcare for RNW... Would you like to work on it together?

Oh, Cora was a Law Creche baby for 2 years, it was a great creche!!

It is TINY - there is really not much room and their toilet/changing room is tiny also.

They used to have all the nappies go into a sanegic container thingee - what a waste of time - it used to stink to high heaven too - you could really smell the pong down the baby end on a hot day. Gross.

J is at the Weltec creche and he is the only child in cloth (actually, what am I saying - was! - he is TT now ) They did not have a prob whatsoever and just put the used nappies in the wetbag back into his backpack, which is right next to the playarea. There was never any issue with smell or children getting into the bag.

These enviro placcy bags they talk about sound good - I wonder where you can apply for those from? We get clothes back in bags all the time and I hate them!
(lol sometimes got nappies in a plastic bag, inside the wetbag, or some in plastic some wetbag or various other combinations )

whitcholls bags are biodegradable or compostable...

the hospital gave us a heavy paper bag for my PJ pants when my waters broke, so the should be able to do that for wet clothes... or just get everyone to use wetbags or ecobags for wet clothes

And Sarah - our creche is selling Kathmandu wetbags atm for $5 each. I think they must get them at a discount rate as on the tag says $7.95 I think?

My daycare in the nursery section had a lidded bucket where the cloth nappy users wet bags went in. You just fished your full wetbag out from the others at the end of the day. The bucket was stored in a cupboard under the sink. I don't know what they do on the toddler side, as I have given up on cloth at daycare after too many bad nappy handling experiences.

I'm thinking if anyone has a cloth friendly daycare who are friendly can you flick me their email addy? (otherwise I'll trawl the lists of friendly centres and then google them)

I might flick out a few emails asking how they deal with cloth and how they *feel* about cloth nappies (maybe a questionaire?) with a request to add a photo if they feel comfortable with it.


Providing that goes well:
Then ask someone about the legislation side of it... how it links in etc
Finally work on a leaflet for centers... I think an online resource with photos and quotes from centres about how easy they find it... but perhaps line drawings on the leaflet? Keep it simple at first.

That idea of several wetbags in one bucket gave me an idea. One of the rectangular storage containers would work well for that. It could be in a cuboard on a drawer type thing that you pull out with your foot, or just on a bench somewhere. The issue then is clearly labeling the wetbags so people can find them quickly...

Nikki thank you so much for taking this one on! I tried when we started there but gave up because I didn't want to do anything to lose our place. I hate having to remember to put the kids in sposies and to buy more. I was so upset when they told me the first day we visited I nearly walked right out, but I felt trapped because I need this childcare to be able to study.

If I can do anything to help, let me know. Other than the nappy issue, I love the Law School Creche, the staff are fantastic and the kids are very happy there.

Well.... don't thank me too much - I'm not sure how far I'm going to get. They still seem to be putting up an awful lot of barriers.

The next supervisors meeting should be soon and I offered to head along and do a demo and/or discuss storage options but I very much doubt that I'll be taken up on my offer. Much easier to squash the idea when no one is around to argue in favour!

Our community preschool is quite small as well.

My DH sent Soph to preschool in a cloth nappy one day, without me realising (I'd previously just put her in throwaway nappies), and they said they were fine with cloth nappies, but just to let them know and they change a little sooner. She has a wetbag in her bag, but I haven't explicitly explained that to the lady that does the nappy changes, so usually just comes all wrapped up in a plastic bag and put back into her preschool bag, which is all zipped up and stored outside in an enclosed undercover area. They don't seem to have an issue with kids getting into bags.

Their lunchboxes are taken out of their bags straight away and stored inside on a table, so I guess they don't really need to get into their bags.

How did the supervisors meeting go?
I am currently looking around for a daycare that does cloth nappies close to home for my 7month old. Am hoping the one round the corner will do cloth, but time will tell i suppose. Will let you know how i get on

The centre we use are great at using cloth and don't seem to care what we use or provide! They just wrap up a dirty nappy in a supermarket bag and put it in the child's backpack (and always verbally told me if there was a poo-ey one coming home). Disposable nappies go in a Sangenic and I think they stink way worse than a cloth nappy!!! If you provide a wetbag they'll happily use that too. I don't know the percentage of kids that are in cloth, but my son wasn't the only child and all the teachers seemed happy & confident in changing his popper-style pocket nappies. The backpacks remained in the change room for the under-2 section, in othe over-2's they were near the entrance, outside the toilets.
