Manual renewal and you have to give a certain amount of warning before cancellation. I had to pay this year for both subs, but have cancelled the kids one for next time as I have tonnes of patterns for the boys now.

I'm confused! If its manual how come you have to give a warning of cancellation?

Pretty sure my last kids mag was the end of my sub, I plan to continue to get it so haven't canceled it - was just wondering how long before they charge my cc.

I posted this yesterday on the Otto price rise thread when Laura asked

Dunners wrote:They send you an email to remind you that it's coming up (it's 6 weeks warning to cancel, I think they send the reminder around this point so it gives you a chance to cancel if you wish). When the first mag for the new year arrives there's an invoice in there with a URL to pay (and an email is sent with the same URL) - you just go to that link and pay online via CC. Easy. :)

Though I discovered yesterday my renewal was $51 Euro, whereas a first timer is $42.50 Euro.

Leanne, I read this on their site months ago, hence my initial question:

The subscription is a standing subscription that is automatically continued unless the subscriber cancels it at least 6 weeks prior to the end of the subscription period in force.

OK, so the next kids one (i only get the kids one) is published on Jan 16 and the next is April 29th.
I haven't gotten any email reminder though. Wondering if I will still receive the jan issue and be invoiced, if so surely I get charged for another annual sub - what happens if I then cancel in February?
(sorry leanne & Rachelle - not expecting YOU to be the font of all Ottobre knowledge) just putting questions out there as i get my head around this.

So when did you start your sub? Last Jan? Was your free one the Jan one, or the "start" one? KWIM?

My guess is that you'll get the Jan one as the last mag for the last sub, then you'll get a reminder before 6w before the sub ends, then the April one will arrive with the invoice?

When did the last issue come out?
I just had a check and my sub ran out in November but I havent had any emails. Seems like a very strange system to me eh?
Its also strange that its cheaper for a first sub and you get a gift....? Maybe they know that they will have you sucked in after the first year
Maybe I will let mine lapse and then subscribe as a new user from my new address :P

Hmmmm I got a gift sub for christmas last year, then I got another gift sub from a diff person this year so I've got a free back issue both times. I hope the person who did the initial sub doesn't get charged for the continuation, surely they wouldn't do this for a gift subscription would they?

Leanne sounds like you've been charged for a sub to both kids and womans as that's the price including postage for that. Maybe you didn't get charged postage last time? It's 42.50 before postage.

question...
I really like the look of 2/02 - but it isnt in English.
I could get the Dutch w German instructions and get my sis to translate... is it worth it you think? Has anyone got one of the really old ones and found it ok to try and figure out?

- You might be right about the postage! Mine was 42.50 + 8.50 post last year (year before last  )

Ah, yes Alison, I probably did get charged postage, or it's a new thing

Claire - ask Rachelle/Sable - I think she has most of the back issues. I borrowed a non-English one off her and I was a bit :? about it (as much as I like some of the non-English designs, I can't enjoy the thought of making any of them without English KWIM?)

I subscribed in Dec 2007 and haven't received anything from them. I might email them.

If it's past that 6 week period and you cancel you still need to pay for the next year, that's what happened to me with the kids one. I'm paid up for the next year now and then it'll stop; they've got it on file now, lol.

As far as the non-English ones are concerned I haven't made any yet, but the plan is to find something similar in my other patterns and do a combination of using existing instructions and guessing. I really want to make the Women's jean jacket in one of those old ones, but I'm going to use my Kwik-sew instructions.
