ANYONE KNOW IF THESE ARE ANY GOOD?? AND HOW MUCH SHOULD I BE WILLING TO PAY??

My mum had a globe lock years ago. They are a good sturdy machine, Globe is made by Bernina, but hers was a pain in the butt to thread. I can't remember which model she had though. If it's anything to go by I have a Globe sewing machine that is over 30 years old and still going strong, I love it. Can't help on price though sorry.

I've got Grandmas old one, its the three thread version. I reviewed it here http://thenappynetwork.org.nz/phpBB2/vi ... 7&start=15. A few of us have them.

I think they were going for about 70 bucks on trademe last year when I was looking at selling it.

I have one. It is a pain to thread, and it DETESTS microfibre and most other synthetic fibres, but it runs like a dream on cotton and bamboo. I guess it depends what you want to sew with it.

Mine is ancient, and the guy that serviced it said it would go forever.

OOOOH OKAY, THEY WANT $125 FOR IT, SEEMS A BIT STEEP THEN, SHAME AS IT LOOKS REALLY NICE :roll:

AND I LOVE THE WIDTH IT DOES

I have that one too - I paid $100 which was a bit much in retrospect.

I found it hard to thread initially but now is no problem.

Its very slow and I find the tension hard to get right but on the plus side its almost indestructible! :lol:

I have one! And its really fussy about how it likes to be thread.
Mum, my SIL and I all have one................
Agree on the cotton thing and if I use fleece too much I have to get the blades sharpened[all overlockers maybe??}
Will last forever
Make sure it has been converted to 2 seperate needles as its impossible to get the twin needles anymore [and cost heaps to get done]
I paid $125 for mine 5 yrs ogo.

I agree with this, I borrowed one from a friend and snapped the twin needle. It cost me $71 to get it converted to separate needles.

hmmm ,ok , will i easily be able to tell if they are twin needles :roll:

, it is on hold for me till 3 at the op shop, but i am am thinking it is a bit much $$$
i have a friends baby F 3 overlocker , which i can have on long term lend but its really not that great :oops:

. ....... oh i hate making descisions :evil:

The three thread ones were going for about $70, the fours would have been a bit more. So $125 might be a bit on the steep side.

Can you take some nappy fabrics to the op shop and try it out?? If it goes well, you might think its worth it.

Hi all, I know this is a really old thread, but I just bought one of these at the op shop today for $80- seems like an o.k. price. It's pretty clean and I've threaded it up and it goes well, but the 'red' thread keeps breaking, it's the one that goes through the lower looper, every time I fiddle with the tension. It didn't come with a manual and I wondered if anyone might be able to scan a copy of their manual and email it to me?
