Sewing your own pocket nappy with gusset legs...

Postby bowhunt » Mon Jun 13, 2005 9:07 pm

Thanks for the advice I've had excellent results after a hot wash and then the dryer. I gave the hemp another wash and it seems to be performing much better. So I'm wrapped, will have to give them the overnight test first though, probably with two inserts.

Just to show the size difference with taking another .5 of a cm off the original pattern size. The pink one is the new one, I also used lastin on the leg seams before attaching the gussets, (It made it quite hard to sew, and not so tidy, but has tightened it up a little, possibly not worth the bother)

Email me (email button below this message) if you would like me to email you a copy of the pattern in PDF format. Feel free to distribute, I just ask that you only use it for personal use and not to sell (either the pattern or nappies made from this pattern). Ta! ;)

I've never ordered from them - I've been put off by the cost for shipping.

If the store is US based, there are envelopes called "Global Priority". These cost $9 US to send to NZ. I've had 4 yards of 60" PUL (solid colour) sent to me in those.

I'm sure I made up a dummy order and went through the checkout to see what it would cost, and I was flabbergasted by the cost of the shipping (it doesn't seem to have a GPE option, so goes by weight (from a fading memory))

If you were happy to wait for 2 or 3 months for shipping, it wouldn't be so expensive.

I only buy from US places that use GPE as I know it will cost about $14 NZ to be sent to me, that way. (I've only ever bought PUL though, other fabrics are so much bulkier that they don't fit into the envelope).

I found their service to be really good, I received 12 cuts (lrg size) of PUL, plus a few metres of aplix and lastin in a Global Priority envelope (around $12-13 NZ), it took just 2 weeks to get here. Good prints too, but usually cotton or polycotton blend, and these can be either knit or woven so check first; their solid colour PUL however is 100% polyester.

i am thinking of making a gusset pocket, but my main reason for doing it was to give more room for stuffing without widening the crotch.

any bright suggestions?

how about making the pul layer bigger,at the bum (so it makes more room)...

opinions?
