Eco-friendly childcare centres

Postby Lianne » Fri Jul 14, 2006 3:56 pm

Along the lines of this forum, can people recommend childcare centres that give some thought to being eco-friendly. I realise of course that most are privately run and budget is a huge constraint.

Along the lines of -
- cloth wipes instead of disposables (like the Greytown example)
- low toxicity craft materials
- eco-friendly cleaners, washing up liquid etc
- organic food where possible (now I'm being too idealistic)
- anything else

Please tell me about your childcare centre & surprise me!

Ideally, I'd like to do a feature on this on my web site.

I'm not quite sure, but possibly Steiner? I know they teach kids about looking after your body and the environment

Give me money and I'll start one up! LOL That would be a dream for me to work in! :)

Lots of high quality wooden toys ... huge outdoor environment with trees including fruit trees, a herb garden, berry bushes.

That would be so cool!

just came across this (& yes, it is a Steiner centre): http://awhinachildren.co.nz/component/o ... /Itemid,1/

but... their nappy policy is to use Moltex or similar. I think something like a fitted nappy with wool soaker would fit with their philosophy quite well though (not that I have any experience with the Steiner practices apart from visiting an open evening at the Christchurch school a few years ago, so I could be wrong!).
