I have a strange hankering....Quiltalong anyone?

Postby sunbird73 » Wed Aug 12, 2009 6:57 pm

OK, not a quilt but I did have to piece the top and bottom of it in blocks... here is a pic of my first ever roman blinds, just finished today.

Was way more of a headache than I thought it would be (but then I really hate handsewing little rings on I have discovered!!). And I see also from the pic that it may be wider at the top than the bottom? BUt other than that pretty happy with it, and blardy relieved to have them done!

I finished piecing together my first block! I just need to sew on the last of the strips that edge and separate the blocks, and take out the tacking stitches... should get that done today so I'll post a photo later when its completed :D

My first completed block :D All hand-sewn. I do need to fix the corners up, but I think that is going to be easier to do as I add more to it (each corner will have 4 strips meeting together)

yummy blues, this looks great. Are you doing all blue range blocks or all different?
Keep it up.

The strips separating each block are purple (the photo didn't come out that well colourwise). This block has been more blue-toned, but overall I'm hoping for a mixture.

Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally got somewhere with my quilt. Admittedly I still have about 20cm of binding left to stitch on. haha.

And I don't even wanna mention how many things I've screwed up on this quilt.

Disclaimer: I decided I liked wrinkly quilts so this one is intentionally (kinda) wrinkly... maybe more than I meant to (heh) but meh.

Sorry for the size of the pics...

Just gorgeous Nikki !!! Love the fabrics you have chosen. Straight line quilting is much harder than stippling, and thats a big quilt. WELL DONE !!!!

That looks fantastic Nikki.

I was just thinking about this thread yesterday wondering if anyone had finished - I found mine in the cupboard, after I sewed it all together I decided I didn't like it and want to change it from all large square to a mix of large and small but haven't done it yet cos I don't want to waste any of the fabric. Foolishly I made them 5" which is not a standard size I can get a template in #-o so it is sitting waiting ...

Nikki, that is amazing! I love it, you've done such a great job. And it's HUGE!

I want to start mine but don;t have a backing fabric yet. I can do the front bit though, eh? I got Bend The Rules the other day. There are lots of great projects I'm looking forward to making or adapting.

This thread reminded me about my 2 wip quilts ... Just got one out and sewed some more blocks to the sashing while dd was having 'rest time' (watching a DVD on the lounge) and ds was asleep... All my rows of blocks are now together, just have to sew them all together along the strips (I so don't know quilting lingo!) and then the quilt top will be together.
